Box Knowledge 101

What is Corrugated Cardboard?

Corrugated boxes are made from layered paper with a fluted middle layer, giving strength while keeping weight low. This makes them ideal for shipping and storage.

Common Box Strength Ratings

  • 32 ECT – up to ~30 lbs (standard shipping)

  • 44 ECT – up to ~40–50 lbs

  • 48 ECT – up to ~60 lbs

Single Wall vs Double Wall

  • Single wall – suitable for most shipments, up to ~40–50 lbs

  • Double wall – added strength for heavy items, 50–80+ lbs and better stacking

Choosing the Right Box

  • Light items (0–20 lbs) → 32 ECT

  • Medium (20–50 lbs) → 44 ECT

  • Heavy (50+ lbs) → 48 ECT or double wall
